What to Expect
At your first counselling session with me:
We will work in a safe, relaxed environment without judgment or criticism.
You will learn about the Confidentiality Agreement that applies to both of us.
I will explain my qualifications and experience to you and will answer any questions you may have. I will also explain to you what methodologies I use and my treatment philosophy.
I will ensure that any anxiety you may have about the counselling process is alleviated.
When you are relaxed and comfortable, we will discuss and assess your presenting issue. I will listen and ensure you know I understand what you are saying by providing practical feedback and strategies.
I will help you design a Plan of Action, which may include practical strategies, exercises, readings, or scheduling a follow-up appointment. I may identify pertinent community resources, support systems or even websites to facilitate your road to recovery.
By the end of our first session, you will have not only have a clear plan of action, you will know you have been heard and understood, and that you have taken the first step in improving your situation.
